Heating is far quicker than stove-top, and it has auto shut-off function so that you do not want to look at it. Tow problem accompanying this unit: 1) The prime phase is plastic, chrome plated, and it is cracked, and peeled off after scant months. 2) I bought unit in Nov/2009, used it one/twice per day together with reversed-osmosis water filter, and the unit broke in Dec (one-year 1-week, and it's out of 1-year guarantee :=(

Now the prime a section of the handle is warped and the hinge broke. If you do now not remove the lid sooner than pouring the lid will fall off. If you permit the lid off it goes to boil but does no longer need to shut off. I was no longer in a position to find a parts web page for replacemnt phases.
Having the lid fall off while pouring poses the risk of being burned.
